Pairing: Forrest Bondurant/Maggie Beauford
Disclaimer: I do not own anything.
Summary: She had the softest skin he had ever felt.
I have a new obsession and that is the movie, Lawless, and Tom Hardy and Jessica Chastain's characters are just so wonderful in it together. Just something short to dip my toe into something new.
Are you sure you’re all right?
A bit too much whoopee for one night, I guess.
She gave him a small smile and her hand began to slip from his and all he knew was that he didn’t want it to. He gave the tips of her fingers a slight rub and she felt it and smiled again. She had the softest skin he had ever felt. His ma and sisters hadn’t had skin like that. Theirs had been rough, leathery, from working every day of their lives but Maggie’s were soft. Like a feather. No, not like feathers. He never wanted to think of her and feathers. Like the snow flakes slowly falling that night.
He looked at her and he wanted to say something else to keep her there but he never knew what to say to her. She never seemed short of words around him and he didn’t know how a person could say so much and never say the same thing twice.
She smiled at him and then slowly turned, going down the steps again to her car. The air smelled of snow and the cold and her perfume that he had become so familiar with in the weeks that she had begun to work there. Something that smelled as sweet as her smile.
He stood on the porch, his hands in his pockets because he didn’t know what else to do with them, and he watched her get into the car and he remained standing there, keeping watch as the engine turned over and the headlights shone on and he still didn’t move as she drove away. He watched as the car drove away, sputtering in the night, and then, there was absolute silence. He fisted his hands in his pockets and he felt as if they were being pricked with pins and he didn’t get why.
He came down the steps and went to his own car, snow crunching beneath his feet, and he glanced up the road as if he expected her to have come back.
Minutes or hours – he couldn’t be sure – later, as he laid on the ground, blood from his neck pouring onto the white snow, he heard screaming from somewhere and he could have sworn it was Maggie but he didn’t know where it was coming from. He thought maybe he was dreaming it. He swore he could still smell the sweet scent of her perfume in the air.
